Halftime Pep Talk

When it comes to our line of work, helping families prearrange and prefund their funerals, I am certain that the things we do on a daily basis will determine our overall success.
So here’s my question: We’re down to the second half of 2011 – are you completely satisfied with your production or do you need to start doing things differently if you are going to not only hit, but hopefully surpass your 2011 production goals?
One carrot that Precoa dangles on an annual basis to help with our company goals is our incentive trip. If you’ve ever been on one I can just about guarantee that you are of the mindset to never miss another.
This year is no exception. Escape To Paradise - Maui, located on world famous Kaanapali Beach, looks like it could be one of the most spectacular trips we’ve ever organized. With unbelievable snorkeling coves, tropical golf courses, great shopping, dining, entertainment, and more surrounding the resort, this is a tremendous reward that every one of you deserves to experience.
Now let’s talk about doing the daily things that will help drive us all towards occupational excellence.
First of all I believe that without daily planning you will not reach your full potential. Sounds pretty simple doesn’t it?
Every morning I try and spend 15-20 minutes planning out my day. I am a firm believer that if you just show up to work and then figure out what your daily activities are that you will not be nearly as productive as if you had actually planned out your day.
For example: “I plan on turning in ‘X’ number of leads to the Funeral Planning Center today” or “I am going to stop by ‘X’ number of Door Knocker leads today to introduce myself and the Final Wishes Organizer.”
Now here’s the big part – at the end of the day it is imperative that you recap your daily activities and accomplishments. What all did I get done today? Did I get everything that was on my list accomplished and if not, why? What can I do differently tomorrow to be more productive?
By adding these two daily steps I guarantee that you will get more things done on a daily basis than ever before.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are blessed to be in this fantastic profession! The job isn’t easy – I am convinced that it isn’t supposed to be – but the beauty of what we do can enrich our lives because each and every one of us has an opportunity to help families in a way that no one else can.
You see I believe that every life deserves to be celebrated and it is an honor to sit down with our client families to help them plan out their life celebration. I think this is something that we should all take very seriously.
One of the best sales counselors that I have ever recruited and had an opportunity to work with was a former funeral director named Terry Brown. After he had been with me for a while, Terry told me he discovered that by doing pre-need he could help 10 times more families than he ever could from the at-need side of the business. I happened to be in his home one time and he had a sign on his bathroom mirror – he also had the same sign in huge letters sitting in the middle of his work desk – that read: “How many families can I help today?”
I encourage you to start doing things today that you have not ever tried in the past. I encourage you, if you are not already doing so, to start planning out your daily activities and push yourself to accomplish more than ever before. I also encourage you to be proud of what you do and hold your head up high because what you do is extremely important and you are doing meaningful work.
My last question to you is: If not now, when?

Who’s Qualified For Escape to Paradise - Maui?
We’re midway through 2011 and we’ve had 10 all-star agents punch their ticket to Maui with seven more surpassing the 1 million-point mark last month. A BIG congratulations – or Ho'omaika'i 'ana as they say in Hawaii – to our June qualifiers Cheryl Marshall, Dan Parriott, Agavni Grigorian, Paul Brooks, Brian Kennebeck, John Fabry, and Adam Vogel.
The qualifying list will keep getting bigger in the coming months as more and more agents join the elite group. As of July 1, there are two agents knocking on the door with 900,000+ points and 16 more over the 700,000 mark. Overall, there are 53 Precoa agents currently on pace to qualify for Escape to Paradise and we want to see every one of them in Maui!
