The Escape Plan – July 2011

2011 Precoa Incentive Travel Newsletter, July 2011

“It’s not so important who starts the game but who finishes it.”
-John Wooden

You’re midway through the incentive sales period and the Precoa home office in Portland would like to congratulate you all for an outstanding first half performance! Like any good team does at halftime, this is a great time to analyze your performance thus far and think about what’s been working well and what you need to adjust in the second half.

With that in mind, we’ve asked one of the best coaches in the industry – Precoa Vice President of Sales Brian Whittecar – to give a halftime pep talk that’ll have you fired up for an outstanding second half. The ultimate reward for your effort in 2011 is within your grasp and we want to see a record number of qualifiers for Escape To Paradise - Maui (April 25-30, 2012).

In this issue of The Escape Plan you’ll also find: an update on the latest incentive trip qualifiers, a preview of the commemorative Escape To Paradise - Secrets DVD, and an overview of the breathtaking beaches and pools at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the video on the official Escape to Paradise website – – to take a virtual tour of the Sheraton Maui. Halftime Pep Talk

By Brian Whittecar
Precoa Vice President of Sales

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

When it comes to our line of work, helping families prearrange and prefund their funerals, I am certain that the things we do on a daily basis will determine our overall success.

So here’s my question: We’re down to the second half of 2011 – are you completely satisfied with your production or do you need to start doing things differently if you are going to not only hit, but hopefully surpass your 2011 production goals?

One carrot that Precoa dangles on an annual basis to help with our company goals is our incentive trip. If you’ve ever been on one I can just about guarantee that you are of the mindset to never miss another.

This year is no exception. Escape To Paradise - Maui, located on world famous Kaanapali Beach, looks like it could be one of the most spectacular trips we’ve ever organized. With unbelievable snorkeling coves, tropical golf courses, great shopping, dining, entertainment, and more surrounding the resort, this is a tremendous reward that every one of you deserves to experience.

Now let’s talk about doing the daily things that will help drive us all towards occupational excellence.

First of all I believe that without daily planning you will not reach your full potential. Sounds pretty simple doesn’t it?

Every morning I try and spend 15-20 minutes planning out my day. I am a firm believer that if you just show up to work and then figure out what your daily activities are that you will not be nearly as productive as if you had actually planned out your day.

For example: “I plan on turning in ‘X’ number of leads to the Funeral Planning Center today” or “I am going to stop by ‘X’ number of Door Knocker leads today to introduce myself and the Final Wishes Organizer.”

Now here’s the big part – at the end of the day it is imperative that you recap your daily activities and accomplishments. What all did I get done today? Did I get everything that was on my list accomplished and if not, why? What can I do differently tomorrow to be more productive?

By adding these two daily steps I guarantee that you will get more things done on a daily basis than ever before.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are blessed to be in this fantastic profession! The job isn’t easy – I am convinced that it isn’t supposed to be – but the beauty of what we do can enrich our lives because each and every one of us has an opportunity to help families in a way that no one else can.

You see I believe that every life deserves to be celebrated and it is an honor to sit down with our client families to help them plan out their life celebration. I think this is something that we should all take very seriously.

One of the best sales counselors that I have ever recruited and had an opportunity to work with was a former funeral director named Terry Brown. After he had been with me for a while, Terry told me he discovered that by doing pre-need he could help 10 times more families than he ever could from the at-need side of the business. I happened to be in his home one time and he had a sign on his bathroom mirror – he also had the same sign in huge letters sitting in the middle of his work desk – that read: “How many families can I help today?”

I encourage you to start doing things today that you have not ever tried in the past. I encourage you, if you are not already doing so, to start planning out your daily activities and push yourself to accomplish more than ever before. I also encourage you to be proud of what you do and hold your head up high because what you do is extremely important and you are doing meaningful work.

My last question to you is: If not now, when?

I look forward to seeing each one of you in Maui in 2012. Thank you for all of your effort and hard work!

America's Best Beach

With three miles of white sand and crystal clear water, it’s no wonder why Kaanapali Beach was once named America’s Best Beach. Fronting the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, this former retreat for the royalty of Maui is now a popular getaway for the world. Kaanapali was Hawaii’s first planned resort and has become a model for resorts around the globe.

One of Kaanapali Beach’s most famous attractions is the daily cliff diving ceremony – found only at the Sheraton Maui Resort – off of the beach’s northern-most cliffs known as Puu Kekaa, or Black Rock. Held every evening at sunset, a cliff diver lights the torches along the cliff, diving off of Black Rock in a reenactment of a feat by Maui’s revered King Kahekili. This memorable ceremony is just one more reason why Kaanapali Beach ranks as one of Maui’s signature beaches.

The Sheraton Maui Resort also features a 142-yard fresh water swimming lagoon that meanders through tropical gardens and under wooden bridges. An outdoor jacuzzi set amidst lava rock formations and waterfalls cascading from lush tropical flower beds assure you that you are in Hawaii.

Two poolside bars compliment each end of the water system with tropical refreshments and hot barbecue specialties served throughout the day. A professional pool staff provides professional tanning consultation, towels, cabana and gazebo rentals for refuge from the warm Kaanapali sun.

Award Points Needed to Qualify

Counselors must earn a minimum of 1,000,000 points to qualify for the trip. Additional points can be used for room upgrades, extra nights, excursions, etc. Perk Points carried over from previous years can be used for upgrades and excursions once the counselors or manager has already qualified based on 2011 sales.
